Celebrity Spotlight Series show on NESN

NESN premieres television show spotlighting MetroWest’s visitor experience, filmed at Marlborough’s New England Sports Center

December 12, 2013– A half-hour show highlighting the family-friendly experiences of visitors to Massachusetts’ MetroWest region, produced by the MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau, premieres on NESN’s Celebrity Spotlight Series on December 14 at 6pm.

The show was filmed primarily during a Canadian-US youth hockey tournament that took place at New England Sport Center over the recent Thanksgiving weekend.  The tournament, the second annual North American Fall Classic, brought dozens of teams to Marlborough for three days of hockey, shopping, dining, and hospitality

“We chose to focus on this tournament because it represents all the strengths of MetroWest: family-friendly accommodations, easy access via interstates, plentiful shopping, proximity to Boston, and a range of dining and recreation options,” said Susan Nicholl, MWTVB executive director. “And the logistics of operating this huge tournament are fascinating for anyone to watch, not just sportsfans.”

A major generator of economic activity in MetroWest, New England Sports Center’s tournaments fill more than 40,000 hotel rooms in the region annually.  Preliminary numbers indicate that the North American Fall Classic accounted for over $500,000 in economic activity in the region over Thanksgiving weekend, according to Richard Tomanek, general manager of the Embassy Suites Marlborough and interim treasurer of MWTVB’s board of directors.

Production of the Celebrity Spotlight show was MWTVB’s first foray into television marketing.  NESN, which reaches 4 million homes in a six-state area, will rebroadcast the show on December 23 at 5:30pm, December 31 at 7pm, and on three January dates to be announced.

Additional financial support for the Celebrity Spotlight Series show was provided by the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism; Solomon Pond Mall, the show’s sponsor; DN Van Lines, Boston Rockhoppers; and Horseshoe Pub & Restaurant.
