About Us Visitors Guide Tour Operators Meeting/Events

Garden in the Woods has been a beacon of natural beauty and conservation excellence for years. Among its many accolades is the prestigious recognition of its trillium collection as a Nationally Accredited Plant Collection by the American Public Gardens Association’s Plant Collections Network in 2013. Now, in its ninth year, Trillium Week returns to the Garden, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the splendor and diversity of trilliums.

Trilliums, with their distinctive three-petaled blooms, hold a special place in the hearts of nature enthusiasts and gardeners alike. Uli Lorimer, Director of Horticulture at Native Plant Trust, reflects on the allure of trilliums, stating, “There are few wildflowers as charismatic as Trillium. Instantly recognizable and widely cherished by gardeners and wildflower enthusiasts alike, they are a wonderful element of the spring flora of this country.” He emphasizes the patience required to cultivate these delicate blooms, with some taking up to half a century to produce their iconic flowers.

The Garden’s trillium collection stands as a testament to its commitment to excellence in horticulture. Recognized for its breadth of taxa and the quality of its specimens, the collection earned its prestigious accreditation in 2013. Lorimer sees this honor as both recognition and encouragement for the staff to maintain the highest standards in developing and caring for the collection.
