Art in Bloom

3 days / 2 nights

DAY 1, March 20:

  • As we are starting to escape the doldrums of winter and flowers are starting to bloom, come to MetroWest to enjoy some fantastic art! Spend the day at the spectacular Paradise City Arts Festival. From artists with established reputations to emerging talents fresh on the scene, 170 curated artists and makers delight you with their extraordinary work. This unbelievable show is the go-to destination for imaginative home decor, art for your walls and sculpture for your garden, as well as a source for handcrafted fashion, jewelry and gifts that transcend expectations. With live music and cafes onsite, you can spend a full day exploring! The show is open March 20, 21 & 22.
  • Once you’ve oohed and aahed (and shopped your fill), head to dinner at Lookout Farm. Their sensational BBQ is best enjoyed with a flight of their handcrafted ciders. Enjoy it all in the lively taproom listening to live music live music starting at 6pm on Saturday nights.
  • Check in for the night at the Hampton Inn, located in the Marlborough entertainment district, which will make a great home base for your holiday. They offer the comforts of home with in-room refrigerators, wireless internet, and a complimentary breakfast.

DAY 2, March 21:

  • In the morning, grab a bite to eat at Lost Shoe, a local favorite with amazing coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches and yummy Belgian waffles.
  • Head to the Danforth Art Museum to explore their latest spring exhibits, including “Memento Mori”, a photography collection by William Betcher. Betcher’s collection examines mortality, ghosts, and the uncanny through an exploration of Civil War-era portraiture and the ephemeral nature or early photographic processes. Rachel Loischild’s exhibit titled “Quarantine Islands” offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding places that represent a legacy of disease, “othering”, and contentious immigration policies.
  • Once you’ve seen your fill, settle in for Children Will Listen, a brand-new musical theater revue at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts directed by Mark DiCampo. This enchanting production celebrates the magic of storytelling through song, featuring beloved selections from musical adaptations of fairy tales and classic children’s literature, including Into the Woods, The Secret Garden, The Lord of the Rings, Cinderella, and more. Thoughtful, whimsical, and full of heart, Children Will Listen reminds us that the stories we share—and the lessons within them—shape us all.

DAY 3, March 22:

  • Visit Concord to experience the stunning photographic work of Marsha Wilcox at the Umbrella Arts Center. Based near Boston, Wilcox is both an artist and educator, capturing everything from intricate terrestrial details to the ancient light of distant nebulae and galaxies. Using telescopes as lenses with dedicated astronomy cameras and specialized filters, she collects light that has traveled unimaginable distances and times. Through long-exposure photography, Wilcox reveals scenes that are both scientifically remarkable and artistically breathtaking — there is art in the science, and science in the art.
  • In the afternoon, pop over to Apothecary Artists and Gallery in Southborough. This complex features over 20 local artists and hosts various workshops and events. Check out the gallery and see the month’s artist feature or shop around The Emporium for handmade crafts.
  • Afterwards, enjoy dinner and a show at Chill Kitchen & Bar in Marlborough.
